Remodeling Your Laundry Room

When you make plans to remodel your laundry room you need to decide if you are going to remodel the existing room, or are you going to move the laundry room.  If you are going to use the existing room then decide where you want the washer and dryer. Remember you have to have water connections for the washer, and if the dryer is electric you need a 220 volt circuit for it.  With this is mind you can design your room.  The water and the electrical can be moved, but it requires more work, and costs.

Now if you want to move it to another location, then you will still need the water and electrical hookups.
All reports say if you have a basement, it would be the best place for the laundry room.

Moving the laundry room away from the basement has produced a major fire safety issue, and there are some other very important issues to consider.  We will discuss some of the important safety and economic issues, then a number of ways remodeling your laundry room to make it look nicer.

 The US Consumer Product Safety Commission says there are an estimated annual 15,500 fires, 10 deaths and 10 injuries associated with the clothes dryer. Moving the laundry room away from the basement has radically increased this risk, because sometimes it requires the venting to be longer and sometimes have more bends. This increases the possibility of lint buildup, dryer overheating and fires.

Also if you make your laundry room upstairs from the basement, the washing machine hoses could fail and flood your floors.  State Farm says washing machine hose failures cause $170 million in damages to homes in the U S.
Ok now we’ve got the bad stuff out of the way, let’s design our wash room.  If possible use a room with a slab for a floor.  Maybe a section of the garage can be remodeled with a new door coming into the house.  This would be ideal for running new water lines and electrical.

The waste water from the washer can be piped outside to the back yard. And we can have another door that opens into the garage.  This would come in handy for a worker coming in dirty. He could drop most of the dirty clothes in the
wash room.

As far as decorations, you can do that anyway you want to, just use you creative mind.
Cabinets can be built and counters can be built.  There now you have a perfect wash room.
