Do Your Own Home Improvements

Home improvements can be done without hiring professional help.  I’ve completely remodel two of our homes.  What it takes is good planning, a little know how and a lot of work.

Studies by Scarborough Research show an average of 49 percent of adults in 75 cities nationwide made home improvements in the past 12 months. The surveys are taken from the one’s who bought a permit to remodel or build. That doesn’t cover all of it.  Some people who are remodeling the inside of their house never get a permit.

There have been a lot of surveys in a lot of towns and they show a lot of activity in home improvement area. Harrisburg, Penn. Ranked number 1 with 59% of the homeowner remodeling. Detroit MI. was in the top ten along with several others.  Honolulu was down with only 37% of homeowners remodeling.

This should be good news for the building suppliers and contractors.   Not everyone does it their self.

Also the study found that some types of home improvements were more popular than others. Twenty-five percent of homeowners had the interiors of their houses painted or wallpapered, or had landscaping work performed.  Only two percent added a home security system and a mere one percent added a pool to their homes.

In spite of the popularity of smaller house improvement projects, consumers are more and more willing to spend more to make their homes appear and feel better.  They say that more than a third (36 percent) of those who engaged in home improvement projects spent over $3,000.

Well the fact is anyone in good health can remodel their home now days with the help of the internet, where you can find out how to do anything.  Also some building supply places have training courses. They say in their report that 46% of the people that remodeled their homes where between the ages of 35 to 45.

They also say that Internet users are more likely to improve their homes.  I question that one; all internet users I know are busy on the internet.

They also say over half of consumers remodeled their kitchens themselves while only four percent paid someone else to do it.

Here’s a good one.
• People who listen to '70s Oldies/Classic Hits, New Country and All Sports radio formats are 14 percent more likely than the norm to have home improvements done.

If you want to remodel, go to your favorite building supplier and see what they’ve got to offer.  You may be surprised.
