Buying a House Checklist
Since a house is where you spend your life and is a major investment, creating a buying a house checklist becomes an essential tool. Miles and miles of real estate websites devoted to luring you with their merchandise may show vivid pictures of properties against a backdrop of juniper or pines displaying a manicured lawn or seaside villas complete with private sun-tanning boudoir, etc, etc. But when it comes to the actual state of the living area, you go blank. They will never tell you that the lovely villa’s foundations are weak and it may crumble any day and that’s precisely why it is up for sale. Or that stately apartment is a disputed property whose original title deeds are lost. In many instances, people have been cheated by wrong representation of ownership rights since the purchase was made sans any search. Buying a house checklist prevents such mala fide deals and puts an end to severe heart burns later on.
However, most people forget to go by the buying a house checklist and become victims of lifelong suffering. But if you have a buying a house checklist, you will know where to start and where to end the search. I recall the experience I once had when I was looking up a property I was going to buy with the help of a real estate agent. Taking a single look at the bathroom, the man was confident that the owner of the property was bankrupt. ‘No one in his proper state of mind’, he pointed out, ‘would leave a leaking water main un-repaired for such a length of time as to damage the plinth area of the property’.
“It’s like getting married,” said a friend of mine. What happens when you are planning yourself to get married? You make a checklist to be sure everything is taken care of. Similarly, buying a house checklist assures you that the purchase is fine. Also, planning ahead of time by making a list of factors may save you from host of tribulations. It reminds you of the actual floor space that you may require for your family, the number of bedrooms, bathrooms; the size and style of the kitchen, basement area, living space, fireplace, et al.
If you are serious of buying a house right now, it is time to go ahead. But remember, first you need a buying a house checklist. |
